PRODUCT CARE

At Auswood we pride ourselves on providing quality furniture that is built to last. Following these basic steps will protect your investment for years to come:

Timber Care

• Dust frequently with a clean damp lint-free cloth. This will help remove abrasive buildup which can damage the timber finish over time.
• Occasionally use a light application of a high-quality furniture polish to enhance the beauty of the fine finish. Avoid using oil polishes or waxes.
• Always use a coaster when placing hot items on furniture.
• Avoid exposing your furniture to direct sunlight, heat, open windows or dampness.
• Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can fade the finish of your furniture, while extreme temperature and humidity changes can cause cracking or splitting.
• Do not expose your furniture to any liquids. Never allow water to sit on your furniture as this can cause swelling and splitting.
• Chemicals like alcohol, nail polish and perfume are also dangerous because they can dissolve the finish on contact and may require professional repairs.
• Do not allow plastic to come in direct contact with your furniture. Chemicals in the plastic can soften and damage the finish if left in contact with the furniture for a prolonged period.

Leather Care

• Do not dry clean or machine wash
• Do not use detergents, solvents, abrasives, non-recommended leather cleaners or suede cleaners.
• Protect from direct sunlight and heat sources, both direct and through heating vents.
• Vacuum regularly with the soft brush attachment to remove dust, Dirt and then wipe with a soft, color-fast cloth as necessary or at least every 2-3 weeks.
• When cleaning leather do not rub excessively or too hard. Always let the product do the work and adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Use only a soft, color-fast or white cloth or sponge. In warm or humid weather, it is important that leather be wiped over weekly, particularly if the leather has become damp with perspiration or deposits of body oils.
• Always clean along any creases that have developed in the leather and pay particular attention to areas that come in contact with the skin such as headrests, arm pad or seat cushions.
